Bulgaria's Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, declared Sunday no one knew how much the construction of the Belene Nuclear Power Plant would cost.

Borisov called upon his predecessor, Socialist leader Sergey Stanishev, and President Georgi Parvanov, to tell the Bulgarian people how much the new NPP would cost as they often take stands on the issue.

"If this boy (meaning Sergey Stanishev - editor's note) knows so much about it, let him stand up and say, "Belene will cost this much, Bulgaria will make this much profit from it, so you Borisov start building right now. If he wanted to fight for the plant, how come he did not do it? I don't know why these people (meaning Stanishev and Parvanov, among others - editor's note) don't feel ashamed, and don't shut up, and let us make a deal with the Russians, so that we can handle the negotiations properly, and protect our interests," Borisov told the Darik Radio.

Borisov said that whenever someone such as Stanishev, President Parvanov, or former Minister of Economy and Energy Petar Dimitrov, spoke about Belene, the journalists should ask them about the plant's total end price.

Bulgaria's former government of Sergey Stanishev claimed the new NPP would cost EUR 4 B, whereas the new government of the GERB party has estimated the expenses at EUR 10 B or more.

The GERB government has asked the Russian side, whose company Atomstroyexport is supposed to construct Belene, for three months so that it can research the project carefully.
