Five people have died shortly before midnight on Saturday in a car crash on the road between the southern Bulgarian cities Kardzhali and Asenovgrad.

All five casualties were traveling in a Fiat which came on the major road from a property located along it, and was hit by an Audi.

A 32-year-old woman, her 15-year-old daughter, a 48-year-old woman, and a 40-year-old traveling in the Fiat all died immediately; the 34-year-old driver died on the road to the hospital.

The only survivor is a 35-year-old man who also traveled in the Fiat. The 21-year-old driver of the Audi and the other man with him, 26, were intact.

According to the police, the crash was caused by the fact that the Fiat driver failed to yield the right of way, while the Audi driver had exceeded the speed limit.
