Rafah Mosque Leveled as Israeli Airstrikes Escalate in Gaza
Israeli airstrikes devastated a mosque in Rafah and caused extensive damage to nearby homes
The Sofia Mosque, which is the only one in the Bulgarian capital, has received cracks in its walls and dome because of the subway construction.
This has been announced by the Bulgarian Chief Mufti's Office, which has alerted the Ministry of Culture and the Sofia Municipality about what it sees as negative consequences of the metro digging just two meters away from the mosque building in downtown Sofia.
"This is one more attempt to violate a Muslim temple, which is a monument of culture of national importance," the Mufti's Office said adding that the Sofia Mosque "Banya Bashi" had been desecrated numerous times, and that now the integrity of the building was threatened during the holy month of Ramazan.
"The irresponsible attitude towards Muslim sites is a matter of concert for us, and it increases our doubts that in the recent years there are trends showing a negative attitude towards the Muslim community, and its problems," the Mufti's Office statement reads.
It has asked the responsible institutions to intervene in order to preserve the Banya Bashi Mosque, which is where the daily Muslim prayers in Sofia take place.
