Two Irish men from Monaghan have had a street in the Bulgarian ski resort of Chepelare named in their honor.

The street, which consists of two houses, has been named ‘Irlandia' (Ireland) after a local municipality meeting agreed to the proposal from local residents.

Both houses on the street are owned by Irish citizens - Shaun Boylan and Gabriel Murray - who have been coming to Chepalare every winter to ski for the past 26 years.

The two Irishmen have renovated their houses in the town set in the Rodopi Mountains and it is expected that a whole Irish neighborhood will be constructed close to their houses, BGNES reported.

The local Chepelare municipality reported that it has not spent a dime on the overall infrastructure of street, and the entire expenditure has been borne by the "Chepelare Irish".
