A military plane has brought back to Bulgaria the bodies of the 15 tourists who drowned in the Ohrid Lake on Saturday.

The plane landed at Sofia airport one hour after midnight.

Relatives and friends identified the bodies for a second time in Skopje since Macedonia's chief pathologist has not recognized the identification carried out in the town of Ohrid, where the 15 Bulgarians died as a tourist boat went underwater.

The initial protocols of the pathologists state drowning as the cause of the death of all casualties.

A third identification might have to be performed in the Bulgarian capital Sofia; the recognition of the expertise by the Macedonian authorities is important for the suits that are to be filed by the casualties' relatives.

The vessel Ilinden sunk about 200 meters from the shore in the cold waters of Lake Ohrid around 11 a.m. local time (0500 E.T.) on Saturday, the worst boat accident ever to happen there.

An investigation is currently underway, both by Macedonian and Bulgarian authorities, to find out the reasons for the tragedy.

Lake Ohrid spans Macedonia's southwest border with Albania and is a popular tourist attraction. The deepest lake in the Balkans, it is known for its natural beauty and fishing.
