Bulgaria: Sunken Lake Ohrid Ship Had 74 on Board with 43 Allowed - Report

The Ilinden ship which sank in Lake Ohrid, Macedonia, Saturday had 74 tourists on board, while it was not supposed to transport more than 43 people.

This has been reported by the Macedonian TV station A1, which also says that 62 of the people on board were Bulgarian tourists, who were headed to see the St. Naum Monastery.

The ship Ilinden has a certificate for a technical check from May 29, 2009. The exact cause of the accident is still unclear but it most likely had to with the fact that the ship was overloaded.
