The momentum in Bulgaria's real estate boom continues despite the financial crisis with the number of newly constructed residential buildings marking a 24% increase in the second quarter of the year, official data shows.

A total of 5 888 new apartments have appeared on the market in the period April-June, which is up by 51% over the first quarter of the year.

The coastal cities of Varna and Burgas lead the ranking with 1 600 and 1000 new apartments respectively. The capital comes in third with no more than 549 newly-built flats, located in 35 residential buildings.

Nationwide, the construction of residential buildings in the second quarter of the year gained 7% over the same period last year.
