The Military Prosecutor's office in Sofia has completed pre-trial proceedings against the Director of Bulgaria's Military Police, Brigadier General Ivan Mechkov.

This press center of the prosecutors office announced that the case will soon be heard in court.

Mechkov has been investigated over the misuse of power and abuse of his official position in connection with the issuance of authorization to work with classified information.

Before the appointment of his team in early August, Defense Minister Nikolay Mladenov, criticized the appointment of Mechkov as Director of the Military Police and called the case "dangerous for Bulgaria" and that it shows "how the system doesn't work."
