The name of a Member of the Bulgarian Parliament from the ruling party of PM Boyko Borisov, GERB, has emerged in connection with a complex property fraud scheme.
On Wednesday the Bulgaria police arrested 7 persons, who committed property fraud by forging signatures and using fake letters of attorney.
The investigation discovered that one of the power of attorney letters found during searches in the homes and offices of the detainees had been sealed by an assistant notary public at the firm of Iskra Fidosova, who is currently a MP from the GERB party and chair of the Legal Committee in the Parliament, the Bulgarian National Television reported.
The power of attorney in question was not used for a fake deal; it was prepared in order to issue documentation for a real estate property so that it could be sold after that.
Fidosova has commented that notaries public risk every day by sealing letters of attorney with fake ID information because they had no access to the information system of the Interior Ministry in order to check the authenticity of the IDs. In her words, there was no way a notary public could know if an ID card was fake.
The investigators of the property fraud are positive that no notaries are involved in the fraud scheme.
The detainees, who include lawyer Silvia Ilieva, are mostly likely to get a permanent detention court order on Friday.
