Ivan Iskrov has been chosen to serve a second term as Bulgarian Central Bank (BNB) Governor by the Bulgarian Parliament early Wednesday.
195 MPs voted in favor of Iskrov continuing in his position of BNB Governor. 14 MPs from the rightist Blue Coalition abstained from voting, while 1 Blue Coalition MP voted against Iskrov's reelection.
Iskrov thanked the Parliament for such overwhelming support and explained that his earlier resignation had been necessary so he could receive the backing of the new parliament.
GERB MPs nominated Iskrov, who earlier resigned from his post, for a second term as Bulgarian Central Bank Governor, last week. Stoyan Mavrodiev from GERB described the move as an act of succession between the previous and the current governments.
Bulgaria's PM Boyko Borisov was reported at the beginning of August to have given up on his original plans to oust Iskrov, who was reelected previously in a highly controversial parliamentary vote just before the July Bulgarian general elections.
