Eight Bulgarians have been injured in a traffic accident with a cow herd near the Eastern city of Sliven.

The accident happened late Friday night as a cow herd suddenly started crossing at an exit of the road between Sliven and Karnobat, which is part of the Sofia-Burgas route.

The cow herd caused a chain crash of three cars. A 22-year-old man is in hospital in a critical condition. Two women and a child also suffered serious injured whereas four other people had lighter injuries.

A total of 6 people died in car crashes in Bulgaria overnight, including two British women and one child.
