Bulgaria marked Tuesday the 14th year since the tragic accident in which 14 Bulgarian soldiers burned alive in a hellish crash on the Sofia beltway.

The accident happened on August 11, 1995, when the truck carrying 14 Bulgarian privates and one officer from the Transport Troops of the Bulgarian Army hit a 15-ton tractor. Only one of the soldiers, Private Krastyo Dunchev, survived, and all the other 14 were burned alive.

The causes of the crash were never established. At the time of the accident, Bulgaria's then Prime Minister, Jean Videnov, was at a folklore festival in the town of Koprivshtitsa, and was informed about the accident 15 hours later.

Bulgaria's Transport Ministry and the state company Transport Construction and Reconstruction, the descendant of the former Transport Troops, honored the memory of the 14 soldiers by laying wreaths at their monument 14 years after their tragic death.
