Actor Zahari Baharov starring in the Best Bulgarian movie for 2008 "Dzift".
The movie "Dzift" was declared the Best Bulgarian Film of 2008 by the National Film Center and Union of Bulgarian Filmmakers.
The movie, which tells the story of a man who was sentenced for a murder he did not commit, and was released facing the harsh reality in Sofia in the 1960s, was awarded at a special ceremony in Sofia Thursday night.
While "Dzift" also carried the awards for best script, montage, and filming techniques, the big surprise of the event was that its director, Yavor Gardev, received no award at all.
The award for best Bulgarian movie director of 2008 was given to Svetoslav Ovcharov for his movie "The Only Love Story that Hemingway Did Not List".
Actor Zahari Baharov, however, did get the Best Male Part Award for his role in "Dzift".
Director Nikola Korabov received a special award for his contribution to Bulgarian cinema.
