Bulgaria's biggest right-wing party, the Union of Democratic Forces, decided to support the new minority government of GERB party, when it is put to the vote in parliament on Monday.
Earlier in the week the right-wingers from the Union of Democratic Forces and Democrats for Strong Bulgaria vehemently opposed the nomination of Bozhidar Dimitrov, Director of the National History Museum, for minister without portfolio because of his collaboration for the secret services.
Dimitrov turned into the apple of discord and quickly soured the relations between the two parties and the formation of Boyko Borisov, GERB.
The UDF, whose leadership held a meeting on Saturday, reiterated that Dimitrov nomination was a mistake, but added that support for the government is a matter of statesmanship.
"The Union of Democratic Forces will back the formation of the government of GERB party," UDF leader Martin Dimitrov announced in the Black Sea town of Burgas. The decision has been based on the need for urgent anti-crisis measures, budget update and restoration of the EU trust.
"This is a tough but responsible decision for us because we think first of all about the people and the future of Bulgaria. The credit of trust that we give to the new government will have its limits and each of their actions will be assessed carefully," he added.
Bozhidar Dimitrov entered the cabinet of GERB leader Boyko Borisov shortly after parliament decided that MPs who were collaborators of the so called State Security, the intelligence and secret police during the communist regime, will be banned from heading parliamentary commission.
Dimitrov was expected to head the parliamentary culture commission.
With or without the right-wingers fifteen votes, Borisov's cabinet will pass, because it has the support of the far-right Ataka, and Yane Yanev's conservative party Law, Order, Justice (RZS).
Combined with the 116 GERB votes, they will all collect 146 which is more than enough, as 121 votes are needed to pass the proposal.
