Ex-Economy Minister: Bulgaria Unlikely to Enter Eurozone in Early 2025
In a recent interview on Nova TV, former Minister of Economy Bogdan Bogdanov expressed skepticism regarding Bulgaria's prospects of entering the Eurozone at the outset of 2025
Bulgaria's incoming Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, slammed Thursday night the rightist Blue Coalition which had raised its concerns over the nomination of Bozhidar Dimitrov as a Minister without Portfolio in the new GERB cabinet.
After Borisov presented his Ministers on Thursday, the Blue Coalition demanded that the Parliament vote for each of them individually rather than en block for the whole government because one of the nominees, Bozhidar Dimitrov, had been a collaborator of the State Security service of the former communist regime.
"This is a hypocrisy on part of the Blue Coalition; Bozhidar Dimitrov has been supporting me for three years. They know that he is a friend of mine, and I said three years ago that I know what's in his file as a former State Security collaborator, I am just giving him an office; there was no way I could be unfair towards Bozhidar", Borisov declared before the bTV channel, urging the UDF and DSB, the parties making up the Blue Coalition to check the former State Security collaborators among their ranks.
"Bozhidar Dimitrov, the person loved by the Bulgarians... is that the thing they decided to be picky about regarding the new government? All of my ministers are experts", the incoming Prime Minister said.
"The fact that they have started to set conditions and to behave the way they did today about Bozhidar Dimitrov, all of that proves that I have right not to enter into a coalition with them. They have 15 MPs, and I should comply with them, and let them twist my arms?! If they are going to be playing such tricks, they could be with me or against me, it doesn't matter, but I am not going to let them insult Bozhidar. Setting conditions on me all the time is unworthy of them. If the Blue Coalition wants, they can support the BSP and the DPS of the former government", Borisov declared.
Bulgaria's new cabinet of the GERB party will be voted and sworn in Monday 10 pm.
Borisov's GERB has 116 MPs, 5 short of a majority, and the Blue Coalition with its 15 MPs was expected to become its major political partner.
Borisov has decided against forming a formal coalition but the Blue Coalition and two other minor right-wing parties Ataka and RZS have still pledged their support on the grounds of national priorities.
