Sweltering Bulgaria is in for another three days of sizzling heat as temperatures are expected to reach 40C on Friday and Saturday.

Weathermen forecast highs of between 37-40C across the country and particularly in the Danube town of Russe.

The only safe haven from the heat will be the beaches along the Black Sea coast and in the mountains. The temperature of the water is expected to hover around 23-24C.

The end of this week and the beginning of next week will bring a much-awaited respite from the heat with scattered rain showers on the territory of the whole country.

Temperatures will drop by 5C down to 27-32C.
