Award winning US photographer, Wing Young Huie, will visit Bulgaria to present his spectacular photography, which depicts the complex, social, ethnic and cultural realities of American society.
He will give a lecture at the American Corner at the Sofia City Library on Thursday, July 16 at 5.30 pm.
Huie, the youngest and only American-born member of his Chinese family, has received international acclaim for his community-based projects such at Lake Street USA, which transformed six miles of an urban thoroughfare into an epic photo gallery.
His most recent work, Looking for Asian America: an Ethnocentric Tour, explores the funny, touching, and sometimes strange intersection of Asian America and American cultures.
As a Fulbright Senior Specialist, Huie is visiting Bulgaria at the invitation of students at Sofia University "Kliment Ohridski" and the American-Bulgarian Fulbright Commission.
This lecture will be the last in a series he conducted during this visit - he previously presented at the Red House for Public Debate in Sofia, and at the Trakart Gallery in Plovdiv.
With love and humor, balanced with social and political poignancy, Huie narrates the stories of the people who inhabit his photography, transforming what we know about Americans and their world.
Huie's visit in Bulgaria is Р° part of the student project "Student Lens 2009: Show Them Your World!
