The Organization of the Jews in Bulgaria "Shalom" has issued an official declaration voicing alarm over encroachment upon historical Jewish sites in Bulgaria.

"Shalom" lists as examples of vandalism the broken commemorative plaque in the southern city of Blagoevgrad and the arson attempt at the Jewish Community Building in Burgas.

"We are convinced that the vandals and the arsonists are not representatives of the Bulgarian people, but they taint their good name before the international community," "Shalom" states.

The declaration, which was sent to media, further voices indignation over the social indifference regarding naming a Sofia street as "Bogdan Filov."

The reaction of the Bulgarian Jews has been triggered by the Monday evening throwing of several Molotov cocktails at the Synagogue in the Black Sea city of Burgas.
