Italy Becomes 1st EU State to Resume Libya Flights
Italy has become the first EU member country to renew its commercial flights to Libya after the the overthrow of late strongman Muammar Gaddafi, the Italian Foreign Ministry has revealed.
Franco Frattini, Italian Foreign Minister and former EU justice commissioner, who is paying a visit to Bulgaria, was presented on Monday with the Order of the Balkan Range, First Class.
At the ceremony Bulgaria's President Georgi Parvanov extended his gratitude for "the stern, but justified assessments " that he gave to the country.
Frattini said that he supported Bulgaria's accession to the European Union because of his belief in the contribution of the government and the huge progress that it has made, but also because of his warm feelings for the country and the president.
Two years ago Franco Frattini objectivity was seriously questioned and he came under harsh criticism for growing too close to Rumen Petkov, Bulgaria's interior minister at the time.
His decision to go skiing in February with the minister caused consternation in some national capitals and among some colleagues in Brussels.
