Bulgaria Energy Minister, Petar Dimitrov, has received notice from the Russian Ambassador to Bulgaria regarding a possible gas cut-off as early as June 7 - EP election day.
Russian Ambassador, Yuri Isakov, has warned that unless the Ukraine manages to pay its debts to Gazprom before the fixed deadline of June 7, the Russian company may have to stop the gas supply to South East Europe.
Dimitrov stated that there is no risk to consumers in Bulgaria. He added that the Chiren natural gas depot currently contains 500 million cubic metres of gas.
"Four million cubic metres a day is enough to meet our demand throughout the summer," Dimitrov concluded and also noted the delivery agreements signed with Greece and Turkey after the January crisis.
On Wednesday, Russia's PM, Vladimir Putin, announced that Russia would stop delivering gas to the Ukraine at the end of June, if the country did not pay for the gas delivered in May.
