EU Moves Toward Unified Air Defense as Leaders Discuss Security Challenges
The European Council in Brussels focused on the creation of a European air and missile defense system
The Republican US Congressman, Ted Poe, has stated he was impressed with the depth of US Bulgaria cooperation on defense, counter-narcotics and combating human trafficking.
Congressman Poe visited Sunday the southern Bulgarian city of Plovdiv and the Graf Ignatievo Air Base meeting with government, military, and civil society representatives to discuss transnational issues that impact both the United States and Bulgaria.
Despite the degree of integration on those issues, Congressman Poe has pointed out that there was still a lot to be done.
"Consistent government focus on these issues and continued cooperation between our countries is essential to maintain regional stability, fight international crime and prevent human rights abuses," Poe said as cited by the US Embassy in Sofia.
Congressman Poe is a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee in Congress and its subcommittees on Europe; Terrorism, Nonproliferation and Trade; and Human Rights. He is currently serving a third term in the Congress. He previously served as a prosecuting attorney and a judge in Houston, Texas for 30 years.
