The zoo in the eastern Bulgarian town of Aytos celebrated Monday 40 years since its founding.

In order to revive the zoo at its 40th birthday, the management has signed breeding deals with six other zoos around the country.

About 200 animals from 30 different species reside at present at the zoo, which is located on a plot of 1 336 decares in the Slaveeva Reka park. The inhabitants include pumas, leopards, brown bears, monkeys, deer, ostriches, birds, tortoises, among others.
