India and Pakistan are coming under intense diplomatic pressure from Moscow in the latest attempts to ease tensions over Kashmir. President Vladimir Putin is heading international efforts to arrange a face-to-face meeting between the leaders of the two countries at a regional security conference. Although Pakistan's President, General Pervez Musharraf, has said he wants dialogue to try to defuse the dispute, India has ruled out talks until he halts "cross-border terrorism". However in a change in tone, Monday's Indian newspapers hint at a possible easing of tensions in view of reports that General Musharraf has ordered an end to infiltration by militants.
