65 US Peace Corps volunteers will arrive in Bulgaria on May 20 to join the organization's mission in the Balkan country.
They will dedicate their time to the development mainly of small societies, the US Embassy in Bulgaria commented.
Some of the Corps members will teach English language in schools, and others will work together with municipalities and non-government organizations (NGO) to improve development of strategic projects.
Before the new-arrivals get to their tasks, they will pass a ten-week training in 15 villages in the Vratsa district. There they will study Bulgarian language, customs, and lifestyle.
Currently, there are 126 Peace Corps volunteers in Bulgaria, who are working in education, local and youth development fields. While the volunteers are on a mission their expenses and medical insurances are covered, but they do not get paid for what they do.
Peace Corps first mission dates back in 1991. Since then more than 1 000 volunteers have worked in more than 250 Bulgarian cities and villages.
