President Plevneliev to Open 10th World Meeting of Bulgarian Media
Bulgaria's President Rosen Plevneliev will open the 10th World Meeting of Bulgarian Media at the Central Military Club in Sofia, Monday.
The Fifth World Meeting of Bulgarian Media was opened on May 17 in Sofia by the head of the Bulgarian News Agency BTA Maxim Minchev.
The global economic crisis, coupled with the jubilee of the meeting, convinced the organizers from BTA to hold it in the Bulgarian capital, which also hosted the first world meeting of Bulgarian media.
The other three took place in Chicago, Rome and Madrid.
The topic of this year's edition is "Whether in Real, Virtual and Information Space: Tourism, High Technology and the Media - the Bulgarian Arguments against the Crisis".
The forum will be attended by representatives from Germany, Israel, the Czech Republic, the US, the UK, Ukraine, Canada, the Vatican, Hungary, Cyprus, Spain, Croatia, Serbia, Moldova, the Netherlands, Sweden, Australia and Romania.
Forty of the largest Bulgarian media will be represented at the discussions, including media professionals from the Western Outlands in Serbia and Banat Bulgarians. The meeting will reflect the expanding geography of Bulgarian media around the world: a website in Sweden, magazines in Croatia and Slovakia.
The first two days will be dedicated to tourism through the prism of the media, and how the media could help develop the Bulgarian tourist product. The discussion will involve EU Consumer Protection Commissioner Meglena Kuneva and Ministers Djevdet Chakurov of Environment and Water, Asen Gagaouzov of Regional Development and Public Works, Peter Moutafchiev of Transport and Ivailo Kalfin of Foreign Affairs.
The second part of the meeting will be dedicated to the media and information technologies, because of the increase in electronic news bulletins, digitalization and other changes in the news domain.
