WB LOAN TO FUND TEACHERS’ RETRAINING

Nearly 1 million euros of a World Bank loan under the project Modernization of Education in Bulgaria will be re-channelled to finance programs for teachers' qualification and retraining. Education Minister Vladimir Atanassov and officials from the World Bank mission in Bulgaria discussed at a meeting on Friday the implementation of the loan agreement. The funds earmarked for the computerization of the school network will be updated, it emerged after the meeting. The World Bank officials noted that streamlining the school network is directly linked with modernization of the education in Bulgaria. On Thursday teachers staged mass protests against the planned ten percent cuts in their jobs.
