Boyko Borisov, Sofia's Mayor, demanded Saturday the complete declassification of the case of Balkan drug lord, Sreten Jocis.
The Mayor, who is also the informal leader of the popular center-right party Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (GERB), said he was not going to address any of Hristo Biserov's statements about his involvement with Josic.
"It is absurd that all materials of the case are kept secret in the Prosecutor's Office. I insist that they become declassified. If my name and character are used as stake, I demand everything on the table and in public," Borisov said.
Hristo Biserov, a MP from the ethnic Turkish Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS), and Chair of the Parliamentary Committee to investigate the case of the Serbian Drug Lord and claims Borisov provided protection for Josic during his stay in Bulgaria, confirmed Friday that the Mayor had been summoned to Belgrade for Josic's trial.
Boyko Borisov was the Chief Secretary of Bulgaria's Interior Ministry between 2001 and 2005, the time when Josic lived in the country.
When asked if he felt like a national treasure, Borisov replied: "Absolutely".
Bulgaria's Interior Minister, Mihail Mikov, declared Friday he was going to guard Sofia's Mayor as national treasure, in response to Borisov's claims that the socialists and the ethnic Turks were planning an attempt on his life.
Borisov offered the comments while officially launching the new system for traffic light management in Sofia, expected to alleviate the congestions in the city.
The system includes 150 traffic lights at key intersections and will be able to provide the much anticipated "green light waves" and "green streets" depending on the time of the day.
