Bulgaria's Interior is forcing the Head of the "Protective Police" Directorate, Chief Commissar, Zhivko Zhivkov, into early retirement.

The news was reported by Darik radio Friday.

The Interior Minister, Mihail Mikov, cites as reason for his decision, the scandal involving housing of policemen from outside Sofia, commissioned to provide extra security for the energy forum, in a deplorable building.

The police officers are housed in the building of the former tank brigade in Sofia's "Gorna Banya" suburb, 10 per room with 80 of them per floor, while the building has two out-of-order restrooms and one bathroom without hot water.

Policemen from Ruse, Silistra, Lovech and Smolyan stood Wednesday outside the facilities in the rain and the cold in sign of protest, refusing to enter the deteriorating building.
