A framework agreement on the construction of two factories for separation of waste and production of waste-based biological fertilizers was signed by Rousse Mayor Dimiter Kalchev and Gerhard Schehle, who owns REB-Schehle of Germany. The project will absorb an investment of around DEM 25 M, 20% of which will be provided by the Rousse municipality. Another amount will be granted by the National Environment Fund and private sources. The waste recycling will make it possible to extend the use of the new Rousse landfill by ten or 15 years. The EU`s ISPA program provided 8 million euros for that landfill which, is now under construction. Tenders will be invited to award contracts for the building of the waste treatment factories. `Without a network of such facilities Bulgaria will not be able to close the Environment Chapter at the accession negotiations with the EU`, Kalchev said.
