BG PRESIDENT: BULGARIAN ELECTORATE SHOWED WISDOM

`I hope that before the end of July the Bulgarian Parliament will have an opportunity to vote the new cabinet. As a President of the Republic I in no way am going to stand in the way of its good actions because the success of this government is a success for Bulgaria. As long as I remain the President of Bulgaria, I will never let myself to defame this Bulgarian institution abroad. In Salzburg, defending the landslide of the Simeon II National Movement at the general election, I deafened Bulgarian people as well. Bulgarian electorate turned out to be wise, because after the 4 years of hard reforms they chose not to take the bulletins, which would bring back to power the revenge-seeking, post-communist nostalgic party. Bulgarians voted for the formation, which in the beginning may have looked somewhat strange, but it stood behind the same priorities, backed all the time by the UDF as well, an me-the market economy, privatization, attraction of foreign investments, European and North Atlantic orientation of Bulgaria. I cannot cast my vote against the vote of the majority of Bulgarian people. All Bulgarians are willing the reform to be transformed into their personal success as soon as possible. The dignity of a person is build up on his way of living. But Bulgaria`s membership in NATO is directly connected with the better living standards of Bulgarians. Bulgaria`s joining the Treaty guarantees also reduces the level of corruption, more solidarity between the states of this Treaty, guarantees security as well. My whole mandate coincided with the ruling of the UtdDF. For the part of the mistakes the blame lays also on me. But if I win the elections I will not change my behavior, not in the least. If I loose, I shall leave with a smile and you will never hear a word from me that the Bulgarian people did not understand me. I am not at all afraid that I may loose the President`s seat. I am afraid of losing my face.`
