If parliamentary elections would take place in Bulgaria now, 26,2% of all voters would chose in their ballot the Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria party (GERB), followed by 16,9% for the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP), data from a recent poll reveals.
The poll about the political preferences of Bulgarians was conducted by the company for market and social research MBMD. The poll was conducted between January 22 and 25, 2009 and included 1,205 individuals.
GERB and BSP are followed by the ethnic Turkish Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS) with 7,4% and the nationalist "Ataka" party with 6,9%.
Mirolsava Radeva, MBMD Director, stated that the poll results show increased support for the opposition parties, and more radical opinions of people seeking alternatives and political change.
The poll further reveals that the informal leader of GERB - Sofia's Mayor, Boyko Borisov enjoys a 45,2% approval, the Bulgarian President, Georgi Parvanov - 42,4%, the Prime Minister, Sergey Stanishev - 24,1%, the leader of "Ataka", Volen Siderov - 18,1%, the DPS Leader, Ahmed Dogan - 10,7%, while the leader of the National Movement for Stability and Progress (NMSP) and former Bulgarian Tsar and Prime Minister, Simeon Saxe-Koburg has only 8,7% approval, followed by the leader of the Union of Democratic Forces (SDS), Martin Dimitrov with 6,7% and the leader of Democrats for Strong Bulgaria (DSB), Ivan Kostov - 6,3%.
Among Ministers from the current Cabinet, the Culture Minister Stephan Danailov leads the approval vote - 37,5%, followed by the Education Minister, Daniel Vulchev - 30,7% and Foreign Minister, Ivayo Kalfin - 25,6%.
