Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Mahdi Safari has canceled his visit to Bulgaria, which was supposed to take place on February 2 and February 3.

The spokesman of Bulgaria's Foreign Ministry Dragovest Goranov said on Monday the visit had been canceled by the Iranian side, which had not scheduled a new date for it.

Iran's Embassy in Sofia also called off its press conference, which was supposed to take place on Monday as part of Safari's visit to Bulgaria.

The Bulgarian Foreign Ministry was expecting the visit in order to discuss with the Iranian side the case of the 55-year-old Bulgarian truck driver, Zhivko Rusev, who has been detained for drug trafficking, and is threatened by a death sentence.
