Big European countries fail to show adequate interest in the "Nabucco" gas line project, the Czech Prime Minister Miker Topolanek stated Monday during a meeting with his Bulgarian counterpart Sergey Stanishev.
"These countries have their own resources and alternatives to provide natural gas, consequently their position significantly differs from the one of some other European Union (EU) Member States. The "Nabucco" project acquired even more significance after Russia recently halted gas supplies to Europe; all EU countries formally support the project, but in reality, some Member States are not concerned with the problem," the Czech PM, whose country currently holds the EU Presidency, stated.
Topolanek further insisted on a mandatory definition and implementation of a unified EU energy policy.
Stanishev and Topolanek are in the Hungarian capital Budapest to participate in the "Nabucco" Summit, which officially opens Tuesday.
On Monday, the Bulgaria PM also met the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Alyiev and negotiated deliveries of natural gas to Bulgaria from Azerbaijan in the volume of 1 B cubic meters per year, with the delivery beginning by 2010.
