The Czech Prime Minister Mirek Topolanek announced Sunday that the transit of Russian gas to Europe would resume in 36 hours.
Topolanek spoke after the conclusion of his meeting with the Ukrainian Prime Minister Yuliya Timoshenko in Kiev.
"The Ukraine has fulfilled all demands and conditions in order for Russia to resume supplying gas," the Czech Premier stated.
Earlier, the Czech Minister of Industry and Trade announced that Russian gas supply to Europe via the Ukraine could resume as early as Sunday.
The supply would resume because the Ukraine signed late Saturday the agreement between Russia and the European Commission (EC) for the establishment of a monitoring system for the transit of the Russian gas via the Ukraine.
Leading information agencies, however, note on Sunday that despite the signing of the agreement, the dispute between Russia and the Ukraine remains a unresolved issue since the two countries are yet to concur on the 2009 price of Russian gas for the Ukraine.
