Sofia's Student Dormitories Quarter Establishes Separate Working Group

Society | December 18, 2008, Thursday // 00:00

Sofia's quarter Studentski Grad ("Student's Town"), which is comprised mostly of student dormitories, is to form Thursday its own working group to solve the main problems there.

The new body's establishment is to be officially completed during a sitting in the technical University in Bulgaria's capital.

"The leading role in the organization should be played by university presidents, Education Ministry representatives and students," the District Mayor Dimitar Dilchev said.

About 50 000 university students from various higher education institutions in Sofia live in Studentski Grad during the academic year. The quarter however faces serious security, accommodation and infrastructure problems.

The working group's foundation was triggered mainly by the brutal murder of the 20-year-old student Stoyan Baltov, who was beaten to death near a disco club in the region on December 5.
