A Libyan group led by the daughter of Libya's leader Muammar Gaddafi has decided to give a bravery award to the Iraqi journalist who threw his shoes at US President George Bush.

"Wa Atassimou group has taken the decision to give Muntazer al-Zaidi the courage award ... because what he did represents a victory for human rights across the world," the charity group, headed by Aicha Gaddafi, said in a statement.

The group also urged the Iraqi government to release the reporter, who was detained on Sunday after throwing his shoes at the US President and calling him a 'dog' during Bush's joint press conference with Iraq's Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki.

In Arab culture, throwing shoes at someone is a sign of disdain.

Shoe-Throwing Iraqi Journalist Given Libyan Bravery Award
I was not raised in some gulag ghetto. I had parents teach me respect for our country and those who were holding the highest offices in the land. Simple manners. Something a lot of obama supporters on this site lack. Simple decorum and social correctness. Sad, really, that so many liberals here openly say they hate Bush and are proud of a HATE FILLED Muslim for attacking him. And that nut job calls himself a professional journalist? And this passes for professional journalistic behavior in Iraq? Bush gave that man the FREEDOM to throw a shoe and not be executed.
