Bulgaria's Interior minister Mihail Mikov stated in an interview for Darik Radio on Saturday that the ongoing protest of thousands of policemen downtown Sofia is against the law.

The smoking demonstration of the officers, who gathered in front of the Interior Ministry building, has been triggered by their unsatisfied demands over higher salaries.

"The ministry is not able to pay its servants big Christmas bonuses," Minister Mikov categorically announced.

"We will try to give them some more money before the forthcoming holidays but it depends on whether the fund for the working salaries will be dried up," he added.
