Sofia to Participate in Earth Hour's 2009 Message against Global Warning

The Bulgarian capital Sofia is included among the cities participants in Earth Hour 2009, Konstantin Ivanov, coordinator for the World Wildlife Foundation (WWF) reported.

Earth Hour 2009 aims to reach more than 1 billion people in 1000 cities around the world, inviting communities, business and governments to switch off lights for 1 hour and send a powerful global message that we need to take action on climate change.

Cities listed to participate in Earth Hour 2009 include Cape Town, Chicago, Copenhagen, Dubai, Hong Kong, Istanbul, Las Vegas, Lisbon, London, Los Angeles, Manila, Mexico City, Moscow, Nashville, Oslo, Rome, San Francisco, Singapore, Sofia, Sydney, Toronto, and Warsaw.

WWF has already submitted a list including 28 buildings in Sofia, whose lights would be switched off in March, 2008 and is expecting the approval of the Sofia municipality.

On this special night, the world will witness some of the most recognizable landmarks on the planet dim the lights in support of decisive action on climate change.

They include the world's tallest hotel building in Dubai - the Burj Dubai, the CN Tower in Toronto, Moscow's Federation Tower, the Quirinale - the official residence of the President of the Italian Republic, Auckland's Sky Tower, the Sydney Opera House.

Earth Hour 2008 took place in more then 25 major cities, on 6 continents, including Chicago, Copenhagen, Manila, Tel Aviv, Bangkok, Dublin and Toronto.
