Bulgaria's cabinet voted Wednesday to allocate relief funds to Cuba and Haiti in order to help them cope with the extensive damages they suffered from the hurricanes "Gustav" and "Ike" that hit the region in August and September of 2008.

Cuba will receive BGN 97 792 of Bulgarian relief aid, and the aid for Haiti will be BGN 39 117. The funds will be provided from the money for international aid envisaged in Bulgaria's 2008 budget.

According to preliminary data, only Cuba suffered hurricane damages for USD 5 B. The Cuban authorities had to evacuate three million people. 450 000 homes were at least partly damaged on the island, and 200 000 people were left homeless.
