The Sofia City Court decided on Saturday to leave the "businessman" from the town of Dupnitsa Plamen Galev his accountant Krasimir Okov and his bodyguard Georgi Gradevski under permanent arrest over accusations of extortion.

The Court took four hours to reach the decision while the session was held behind closed doors.

According to the Prosecutor, Galev and Okov have been blackmailing Lidya Pavlova, a reporter for the local "Struma" newspaper, who had filed a lawsuit against Gradevski for severely beating her son and another young man in a discotheque in Dupnitsa. Galev and his accountant, allegedly, pressured Pavlova to withdraw the complaint by threatening her that they would discredit her son as a drug addict.

On Sunday, in an exclusive interview for the Darik radio Galev's business partner Angel Hristov denied the accusations.

Hristov said that the reporter was the one blackmailing them by asking BGN 300 to 500 in order to write "nice" articles about the two during the last local elections,.

He declared that he had no demands or any ill intentions regarding Pavlova, but warned that she could be in danger and could become the victim of a staged accident in order to discredit Plamen Galev.

"She is a victim and were victims - the domestic dispute, the motherly love are used by the special police and the Prosecutor's Office to discredit us," Hristov stated.

He also explained before Darik that both Galev and himself have received several SMS's (short text messages) warning them about the authorities preparing to conduct a raid and an investigation in order to damage their reputation.

On Friday Plamen Galev was detained under a Prosecutor's order for 72 hours at the Unit for Combating Organized Crime (GDBOP).

Around 6 am, GDBOP officers entered the Galev residencies in the village of Resilovo and began a search of the estate.

Angel Hristov said then that they both learned about the authorities search for Galev from a radio news broadcast, and Galev turned himself into GDBOP.

Plamen Galev and Angel Hristov AKA the Galev Brothers became publicly known after it was leaked to the media that the former Interior Minister Rumen Petkov had met with them while they were under investigation for organized crime activities.

The information spurred a scandal, which eventually led to the resignation of Petkov as Interior Minister.
