Bulgaria, Turkey Agree to Lower Truck Transit Fees

Business | December 2, 2008, Tuesday // 00:00

The transport ministries of Bulgaria and Turkey agreed Tuesday to reduce reciprocally the truck transit fees after a period of contention, which lasted for several months.

Both countries' truck carriers will have to pay a transit fee of EUR 43 per truck, which is a reduction almost in half after the Bulgarian side introduced fees of EUR 83 on June 5, and the Turkey followed suit on September 1.

Bulgaria's truck carriers would be allowed to travel to Turkey and back without paying any fees.

Turkey in turn has agreed to lift the ban on Bulgarian trucks manufactured before 1992 to enter its territory that it had imposed in September.
