If the State institutions have funds over their planned annual budgets, they should give their employees a 13th salary as Christmas bonus, the Bulgarian Deputy Minister and Foreign Minister Ivaylo Kalfin stated on Tuesday.

Kalfin spoke in a special interview for the Darik radio.

His statement came as a response to the appeal of the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce that the Cabinet refrains from paying Holiday bonuses to State employees.

"If the State institutions have money within their planned budgets, they should pay those bonuses. Such act would not lead to inflation increase, to the contrary, it would encourage demand and purchases, something many manufacturers, retailers and many countries are trying to do to fight the effects of the global financial crisis. In addition, the State administration is experiencing serious difficulties due to the 12% staff reduction and the discharging of employees. The remaining ones must be stimulated to do what we expect them to do," Kalfin explained.
