Those Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) members, who have been elected as Members of the Parliament, Ministers, Mayors, Regional Governors and Members of European Parliament can no longer chair municipal, regional, and city party organizations, the 47th BSP Congress decided on Sunday.

The Bulgarian Prime Minister and reelected Chair of BSP Sergey Stanishev voted against the decision, however, the delegates approved the text with a narrow margin.

The socialists further decided that the leader of local and national party structures can hold those positions for no more than two mandates.

The popular song from the time of the communist regime "My country, my Bulgaria" was selected as the party's new anthem. Other party symbols include a blooming red rose and a red five-point star.

"BSP clearly demonstrated that it is a party that constantly changes and progresses even through the Sunday elections of the party's Supreme Council," Sergey Stanishev stated before reporters, adding that 70 of the newly elected Supreme Council members were people 35-years of age or younger.

Stanishev further explained that he has written the book "Why Are We Socialists", distributed at the Congress in five days, mainly in the evenings.
