Bulgarian Given One Year Jail Sentence for Waffles, Cakes Stealing

Crime | October 20, 2008, Monday // 00:00

A 32-year-old man was put behind bars for one year over stealing waffles, cakes and chewing gums at total value of BGN 31 from a booth in Bulgaria's coastal city of Varna.

Dimcho Asparuhov was placed under initial maximum security imprisonment, Varna District Court ruled.

He has to pay the court costs amounting to BGN 73.

The judges' decision could not be appealed.

That was not the first such an attractive sentence imposed to a Bulgarian citizen, Darik News reminded.

A 33-year-old man has recently spent four days in jail over throwing tomatoes and eggs at construction workers, who were building a house located near the defendant's home.

Bozhidar Ivanov got a three-month sentence for stealing a bicycle and a carpenter's machine.
