Sofia Public Transport Workers Demand 25% Rise in Salaries

The public transport employees in Bulgaria's capital city of Sofia demanded Tuesday evening a 25% increase of their salaries as well as better working conditions.

Trade unions, which represent the transport workers, have officially insisted on the pay rise before the Deputy Mayor Velizar Stoilov.

"The employees could demand even biggest increase of their wages because of the high inflation," said Pavel Hristov, a member of the "Podkrepa" trade union.

"It is highly probable that the workers go on strike if their demands are not satisfied," he added.
