Mexico shut schools and offshore oil rigs as it braced for tropical storm Marco, which is moving steadily towards the east coast of the country and is expected to make landfall Tuesday evening.
The U.S. National Hurricane Center say Marco has maximum winds of 100 kilometers an hour.
"Some strengthening is possible during the next 24 hours and Marco could approach hurricane strength as it nears the coast," forecasters also said.
Strong to intense rainfall is forecast, Mexico's National Weather Service said on its web site.
Meanwhile, hurricane Norbert continues to move aimlessly in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Mexico.
The current forecast map shows the hurricane possibly making landfall along the southern Baja Peninsula on Saturday evening.
