The Alaska Governor and Vice-Presidential candidate of the Republican Party Sarah Palin criticized Saturday the Democratic Presidential candidate Barack Obama for having political connections with "terrorists", CNN reported.
Palin referred to Obama's relations with Bill Ayers, a former anti-war radical and founder of Weather Underground, which was involved in several bombings in the early 1970s, including the Pentagon and the Capitol.
"Our opponent though, is someone who sees America, it seems, as being so imperfect that he's palling around with terrorists who would target their own country", Palin stated citing an article in Saturday's New York Times.
The same article points out, however, that Obama had never expressed sympathy for Ayers' radicalism, and that the two were not in fact close.
The conspiracy charges against Ayers were dropped in 1974, and Bill Ayers is currently a professor of education in the University of Illinois in Chicago. His and Barack Obama's homes are located in the same neighborhood in the city.
The campaign of the Republican Presidential candidate John McCain has decided to shift the attention from the economy and the financial crisis to issues about Obama's character and connections, the CNN reported citing The Washington Post.
