The Sofia Appellate Court confirmed Thursday the BGN 10,000 bail imposed on the former Deputy Chair of the Bulgarian State Sports Agency Ivan Lekov.
The magistrates stated as motifs for letting Lekov stay out of jail their belief that he was unlikely to perpetrate the crime again or to hide because he has a permanent address, a high position in society and a clear criminal record.
The Sofia District Court imposed a BGN 10,000 bail on Ivan Lekov on September 26.
Lekov was arrested on September 23 in his office in downtown Sofia. He is accused of using his influence and of corruption because he has taken a BGN 2,000 bribe by the football referee Hristo Ristoskov. According to the Prosecutor in charge of the case, Lekov has taken the money as payment for arranging football games by manipulating referees.
