Five students were crushed to death and four were injured Wednesday when a concrete staircase collapsed at a three-storey school in central Russia.
A day after the tragic incident the teacher of the dead children, who were all in the 11th grade, committed suicide, Russian media reported.
Eleven people were pulled from the rubble and 800 were evacuated from the school, located near the city of Orenburg in the Russia's Urals region.
Investigators are studying the incident for evidence of criminal negligence in repairs but experts tried to identify the main point of weakness in the fabric of the building, constructed in 1962.
