The suspect in a shooting rampage at a college in Finland that left at least nine dead has died from the self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to a hospital official cited by World Information Agencies.
The male suspect allegedly shot himself in the head and survived for a short time before dying at Tempere University Hospital. He had no family with him.
Meanwhile, Finnish police interviewed and released the suspect a day before Tuesday's bloody carnage, MTV-3 of Finland reported. The gunman had been questioned by police on Monday about YouTube postings in which he is seen firing a handgun, Interior Minister Anne Holmlund said. He was released because there were no legal grounds to hold him, she said.
The posting was made five days before the shooting and the location was given as Kauhajoki, the location of the college where the rampage happened Tuesday. The user further posted three other clips of himself firing a handgun in the past three weeks.
According to media reports, clips from the 1999 Columbine school shootings in Colorado were listed among the user's favorite videos.
The shootings began just before 11 a.m. local time as about 150 students were going to class. The school is located180 miles northwest of Helsinki.
Witnesses gave accounts of panic breaking on the school grounds as a hooded gunman entered the building and opened fire. The college building also caught fire since the gunman allegedly had explosives on him.
The shootings happened almost a year after a gunman killed eight people and himself at a school in southern Finland.
